25 days left and I have decided to give up on the alternator and start over. I have not been able to get the alternator to work at all this week, so I am going to start over with a permanent magnet motor and charge controller. I wondered if I had damaged the alternator, so I took it to an auto parts store and got it tested. It passed. Then I tested the wiring and the switch and the resistor and they seem to be functional. The alternator presents too many mysteries for me to overcome. I had been reluctant to use a PMDC motor because of all the components needed (fuse, diode, regulator, etc.) and the expense of the parts; however, I think I can borrow a motor and charge controller and follow the steps listed on the pedal power DIY website.
