The next two items on my PedGen To-Do list are to install and calibrate an analog speedometer so that pedalers will be able to see a target voltage zone, and to determine the length of time required to charge a cell phone. Last Saturday, we tested the voltage regulator under different input voltages. It could handle at least 40 volts. However, I do not want to risk overheating the regulator, so I would like to measure the output voltage of the generator as I pedal. By monitoring the voltmeter, I can identify a target pedal speed that will produce ideal voltage.Today I returned to the Bicycle X-Change shop and purchased a used, vintage speedometer (pictured at left). The Bicycle X-Change gave me a significant discount. Thank you!
Tomorrow one of my classmates is going to lend me an old cell phone, so that I can measure the charging time.
