Today I went to the Bicycle X-Change during my lunch break and asked if they had any scrap generators that I could dissect. Success! I came home with a generator to study. It is difficult to find generators these days because battery-powered lights are long-lasting and remain illuminated even when you stop pedaling. Also, the generator that rubs against the back tire creates a significant amount of friction and reduces one's ability to coast.
I have been thinking about how PedGen will come together. Maybe I could attach the pedal assembly to a small hard plastic/rubber tire that could rub against the generator. The rest of the assembly could be contained in a box. A person would sit on any chair, pull up the pedal/generator contraption and the box, and pedal away to charge a battery inside the box.
